Senegal sees ACT veteran resign and former opposition MP join presidential camp

Moulaye Bacary Tamba announced his resignation from the Alliance for the Community of the People (ACT) after ten years of involvement, citing personal reasons while affirming his continued commitment to Senegal's development. He thanked current ACT president Ibrahima Thiam and highlighted his past roles, including former head of ACT's national youth wing and national council member.

Former Yewwi Askan Wi parliamentarian Babacar Abba Mbaye also disclosed a shift in allegiance, leaving Taxawu Senegal to join the newly formed presidential party Kiiraay. He said a meeting with President Bassirou Diomaye Faye convinced him to support the presidential camp, reflecting a broader trend of opposition figures moving toward the president after the split between Faye and former prime minister Ousmane Sonko. These moves illustrate ongoing realignment in Senegalese politics ahead of upcoming local elections.
