Senegal weather alert: Heavy rain and thunderstorms forecast

Heavy rainfall and thunderstorms are forecast across several regions of Senegal, with the highest intensity expected in the southern and southeastern parts of the country between August 18 and August 20, 2026.

The Casamance region is particularly vulnerable, with high precipitation probabilities reported for localities such as Sédhiou, Vélingara, Kolda, Ziguinchor, and Bignona. Some areas, including Sédhiou and Vélingara, have seen rainfall probabilities as high as 75%.

In the southeast, Kédougou, Salémata, and Saraya are also under watch for significant storm activity. While the northern regions, including Dakar and the Petite-Côte, may experience isolated showers, the weather is expected to be generally calmer there compared to the persistent storm systems moving through the south and center.
