Senegal weather: Heatwaves and thunderstorms forecast

Senegal is expected to experience contrasting weather conditions between August 31 and September 1, characterized by persistent heat and localized thunderstorms. According to the National Agency of Civil Aviation and Meteorology (ANACIM), while much of the country will see stable or partly cloudy skies, significant rain and thunderstorms are forecasted for the southern and south-central regions.

Key areas at risk for stormy weather include Kédougou, Kolda, Sédhiou, and Ziguinchor, with potential extensions toward Tambacounda, Kaffrine, Koungheul, Kaolack, and Fatick. These storms are primarily expected during the evening and night hours.

High temperatures will continue to affect much of the nation. Podor is forecasted to reach 42°C, with Matam and Bakel also seeing highs between 37°C and 40°C. Dakar is expected to maintain temperatures around 32°C. Authorities have advised caution for residents in storm-prone areas, particularly regarding outdoor activities and travel during inclement weather.
