Senegal weather: Heavy storms cause flooding and casualties

Severe storms and heavy rainfall have caused significant damage and casualties across several regions in Senegal. In the Kaolack region, a man was swept away by floodwaters in Latmingué while attempting to cross a submerged road.

In Thiès, violent thunderstorms uprooted century-old trees and caused a classroom roof to collapse at Cem Malick Sy during a teacher recruitment exam, resulting in one minor injury. The city also reported heavy material damage to vehicles and homes.

Other major cities, including Dakar and Touba, faced severe disruptions. In Touba, one death was reported due to electrocution. In Dakar and its suburbs, such as Keur Massar and Jaxaay, flooding has paralyzed transport and submerged roads. Weather forecasts indicate that storm activity is expected to persist across much of the country, affecting various northern, central, and southern localities.
