Senegalese education unions denounce government delays in implementing agreements

The G7, a coalition of major education and training unions in Senegal, has expressed strong dissatisfaction with the government regarding the slow implementation of previously agreed-upon accords.

During a plenary meeting, union leaders reviewed the year's progress and noted successful teacher mobilization concerning the settlement of social liabilities. However, they highlighted several critical bottlenecks, including delays in reviewing the remuneration system, discussions regarding raising the retirement age to 65, the digitalization of exam-related allowances, and the elimination of temporary school shelters.

The coalition also raised concerns regarding Universal Distance Learning (FDU), alleging that the Ministry of National Education has failed to meet financial commitments to contracting structures. This has reportedly led to the suspension of training programs by CNEPS and difficulties in organizing final examinations. Additionally, unions criticized the Ministry of Civil Service for organizational flaws in the physical and biometric auditing of civil servants, which has hindered the enrollment of many agents.
