Senegal and Côte d’Ivoire strengthen bilateral ties during Prime Minister's visit

Senegalese Prime Minister Ahmadou Alhaminou Mohamed Lo conducted a two-day working visit to Côte d’Ivoire on October 18-19, 2026, aimed at revitalizing bilateral relations between the two West African nations.

During the visit, the Prime Minister held high-level meetings with Ivorian Prime Minister Robert Beugré Mambé and President Alassane Ouattara. Discussions focused on strengthening cooperation in strategic sectors, including security, trade, agriculture, energy, and infrastructure. The two leaders emphasized the need to move from formal agreements to concrete results, with a particular focus on digital transformation, cybersecurity, and regional integration within the UEMOA and ECOWAS frameworks.

Economic ties were a central theme, with current trade volumes reported at 250 billion FCFA. The Prime Minister encouraged private sector collaboration to better exploit shared resources, such as recent mining discoveries. Additionally, Lo met with the Senegalese diaspora in Côte d’Ivoire to encourage their involvement in the ‘Senegal 2050’ national transformation agenda, highlighting opportunities in entrepreneurship, social housing, and youth financing.
