Senegal's Employment Ministry and Japan's JICA launch vocational graduate insertion model

The Senegalese Ministry of Employment and Vocational Training (MEFPT) held a framing workshop with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to design a new support model for graduates of vocational and technical programmes. The event brought together senior ministry officials, public employment and entrepreneurship agencies, training institutions, private‑sector representatives and technical and financial partners. Participants identified barriers that young graduates face in the labour market and proposed measures to create a more efficient, inclusive and sustainable pathway from school to work.

The initiative aligns with Senegal’s National Employment Policy 2026‑2034, approved in March, which seeks to streamline and coordinate state interventions on the job market. By strengthening links between training centres, support structures and employers, the model aims to boost employability, provide quicker access to decent jobs and meet the skills needs of the national economy.
