Senegal's PASTEF party faces leadership reshuffle and exclusion debate

Opposition leader Ousmane Sonko told France 24 and RFI on 15 June that any decision on excluding President Diomaye Faye from the PASTEF party will be taken later according to the party’s established procedures. He said the party is “very structured, very organised” and will assess grievances when the time is right, avoiding rushed actions.

In a related development, two PASTEF vice‑presidents in the National Assembly – Ismaïla Diallo and Cheikh Thioro Mbacké – resigned on 12 June. Their departures are part of an internal reorganisation that will allow former party leader El Malick Ndiaye to return to the Assembly Bureau. The resignations were expected after Ndiaye stepped down on 24 May to let Sonko assume his seat, and they open the way for further replacements within the party’s parliamentary ranks.
