Senegal's PASTEF Party Holds Congress, Re‑elects Ousmane Sonko

The Pastef‑Les Patriotes held its first ordinary congress in Diamniadio on 6 June, under the theme “Revolution and Sovereignty”. Delegates from all regions and the diaspora attended as the party formally merged roughly sixty smaller parties, movements and citizen groups. The congress re‑elected Ousmane Sonko as party leader and adopted policy guidelines aimed at national resource control, economic sovereignty, social equity and youth and women empowerment.

In a separate statement, the Comité pour la Plateforme de Réflexions Dooleel PIT urged patriotic forces to rally around PASTEF, warning that the May 22 dismissal of Sonko as prime minister could trigger institutional rupture. The platform highlighted PASTEF’s parliamentary majority, the congress’s ideological documents, and called for strengthening the party’s grassroots, labour links and security for its leaders.
