Brazil and Portugal launch initiatives for the Month of the Elderly

Various municipalities in Brazil and Portugal are hosting diverse initiatives to celebrate the Month of the Elderly, focusing on social inclusion, active aging, and cultural engagement.

In Várzea Grande, Brazil, the municipal government organized a circus outing for participants of the Vovô Zeid Elderly Coexistence Center to foster social interaction and memory retrieval. Similarly, in Brazil, musical gatherings like the 'Atrevidas do Chorinho' group have been used to promote health and well-being through music.

In Portugal, several regional programs are underway. Alijó is hosting the 2026 Aging Forum to discuss longevity and dignity. Alpiarça is organizing cultural encounters featuring Fado music, while the municipalities of Cartaxo and Azambuja are holding debates on dignified aging and social inclusion. Other local efforts include health and prevention sessions in Évora and large-scale social gatherings in Chaves to promote community participation.
