Seocho District launches integrated smart parking system in Seoul

Seoul’s Seocho District has built a “Smart Parking Information Integrated System” that links 25 public parking facilities, covering roughly 2,500 spaces. The platform provides real‑time vacancy data, allows drivers to pre‑pay parking fees via QR code on their smartphones, and lets them exit without additional payment at the gate. Discounts for disabled drivers, war‑veterans, and small‑engine vehicles are applied automatically through the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s remote verification service.

The system is connected to the district’s parking portal, the Seoul city parking information service, and the TMAP navigation app, so users can see available spots across all sites. Centralized management also consolidates revenue collection, overdue‑payment handling, vehicle‑restriction enforcement, full‑capacity control, and subscription‑ticket administration. District head Jeon Seong‑su said, “Through this smart parking information integrated system, citizens will be able to check vacant spots, receive discounts, pay, and exit more conveniently.”

The rollout follows a March pilot of an AI‑based unmanned parking enforcement system that uses license‑plate recognition to issue warnings and fines for illegal parking.
