South Korean smart parking system implementation
Overview
South Korean municipalities are implementing integrated smart parking systems to improve urban mobility and convenience.
In Seoul, the Seocho District launched a “Smart Parking Information Integrated System” connecting 25 public facilities and approximately 2,500 spaces. The system provides real-time vacancy data, allows for smartphone-based QR code payments, and automates discounts for specific groups, such as disabled drivers and war veterans. This initiative follows a previous pilot of an AI-based unmanned enforcement system.
In Incheon, the metropolitan city is expanding its real-time parking information services to include private parking lots. Through an agreement with the platform company iParking, private lot availability data will be linked to the Incheon Traffic Information Center website and public data portals. Incheon also plans to add 20 more public parking locations to its real-time information service to create a more consolidated system.
