Seongnam City launches MICE industry and welfare strategy
Seongnam City is implementing a multi-faceted administrative strategy focused on MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, and Exhibitions) industry development, climate change response, eco-friendly resource circulation, and elderly welfare safety.
Regarding the MICE industry, the city has established the ‘E.N.G.I.N.E.’ strategy, which stands for Enterprise, Network, Growth, Innovation, Nexus, and Effect. This plan aims to transform Seongnam into a premier business event city by moving beyond simple event counts to new performance indicators that measure regional economic contribution and global recognition. A key component is the construction of the Baekhyeon MICE Convention Center, which will be integrated with local tourism, culture, and dining sectors.
In addition to economic growth, the city is addressing environmental and social issues. Seongnam will host a ‘2026 Healthy City Symposium’ to discuss the impact of climate change on public health and has designated the Yeosu commercial district as a ‘multi-use container specialized district’ to reduce single-use plastics. Furthermore, the city is conducting safety inspections of 16 elderly welfare facilities built over 15 years ago to ensure structural integrity and resident safety.
