Seoul prepares for 2027 World Youth Day
Preparations are underway for the 2027 World Youth Day (WYD) to be held in Seoul, South Korea. The event is viewed by the Korean Church as a significant opportunity for evangelization and cultural exchange, leveraging South Korea's contemporary global prestige in music and cinema to engage with other Asian nations.
In Viseu, Portugal, the São José Parish is independently organizing a group of young people to participate in the event. Unlike many other Portuguese communities that coordinate through central structures in Lisbon, this parish is managing its own logistics to overcome the high travel costs and distance associated with traveling to Seoul.
While the Korean Catholic Church sees the event as a way to involve local youth and address social challenges such as unemployment and housing, organizers note that the upcoming pilgrimage presents unique logistical challenges compared to previous editions.
