SEPE clarifies unemployment subsidy requirements and job vacancies in Spain

The Spanish State Public Employment Service (SEPE) has clarified the requirements for unemployment subsidies aimed at individuals over the age of 52. To qualify, applicants must have contributed to the unemployment contingency in Spain for at least six years throughout their working life. These years do not need to be consecutive, allowing for periods of unemployment or career breaks between different contracts.

Other necessary conditions include meeting the requirements for a contributory retirement pension (excluding age), which generally requires 15 years of contributions to Social Security, including two within the legal reference period. Applicants must also meet specific income limits and be registered as job seekers.

Additionally, SEPE continues to manage various job and self-employment vacancies across Spain. The current increase in job offers is attributed to year-end corporate preparations and the expiration of public hiring subsidies. In regions like Valencia, agencies such as LABORA manage specific programs, including subsidies for hiring qualified youth. It is noted that most hiring aid requires the employment contract and Social Security registration to be completed before the subsidy application can be submitted.
