Serasa announces record debt renegotiation event amid rising defaults

Serasa has launched the 36th edition of its Limpa Nome Feirão, a massive debt renegotiation campaign in Brazil. The initiative features over 750 million offers from more than 3,300 partner companies, providing discounts of up to 99% and installment options starting at R$ 9.90. The campaign, held in partnership with Correios, allows consumers to negotiate via the Serasa website, app, WhatsApp, or in person at over 7,000 post office branches until December 6.

The event comes as Brazil faces a historic surge in delinquency. Data from September 2026 indicates that 84.2 million people are in default, representing 51.1% of the adult population, the highest percentage since 2016. Total national debt has reached R$ 597.4 billion, with an average debt of R$ 7,093.83 per consumer.

While some indicators show a slight decline in family indebtedness to 81.7% in September, the composition of debt is shifting. For the first time, debts with financial institutions have surpassed basic utility bills, such as water, electricity, and gas, in terms of total share. Regional data shows significant impacts in states like Mato Grosso, Espírito Santo, and the Distrito Federal, where millions of consumers face billions in outstanding debts.
