Regional infrastructure updates: Energy projects in Serbia and water shortages in Bosnia

In Serbia, Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS) is advancing several energy and infrastructure initiatives. The company is preparing for the construction of the Bistrica reversible hydroelectric plant at Uvac, which will act as a large-scale battery to balance wind and solar energy. Additionally, EPS has issued a public call for the acquisition and joint development of 1,200 MW of solar and wind projects to support decarbonization and energy security. In Vršac, local utilities are replacing aging asbestos-cement water pipes with modern polyethylene ones to stabilize the supply.

However, infrastructure theft has disrupted rail services on the Ovča-Pančevo Glavna line. Approximately 80 meters of contact network cables were stolen, damaging four masts and two tensioners. Consequently, rail traffic is restricted to a single track.

In Bosnia and Herzegovina, KJKP Vodovod i kanalizacija Sarajevo has issued a serious warning regarding low water levels at the Bačevo source. Water levels in wells KB1 and KB8 are dangerously close to critical thresholds that could trigger automatic pump shutdowns, potentially impacting the city's water supply. Citizens are urged to practice water conservation.
