Serbia and Azerbaijan to build gas power plant near Niš
Serbia and Azerbaijan have signed an agreement to establish a joint venture for the construction of a gas-fired power plant near Niš. The project involves Elektroprivreda Srbije, Srbijagas, and the Azerbaijani state oil and gas company SOKAR.
The planned facility will have a capacity of 500 megawatts and is designed to produce both electricity and thermal energy. The project is expected to be completed by 2030. This initiative expands the energy cooperation between Serbia and Azerbaijan beyond gas supply into electricity production.
For Serbia, the project is intended to increase production capacity and enhance energy security, while potentially supporting industrial development in the southern part of the country.
