Serbia and Republika Srpska implement reforms to boost youth employment

Serbia is expanding its ‘Youth Guarantee’ program to all cities and municipalities starting January 1, 2027. Previously limited to three pilot districts, the initiative supports individuals aged 15 to 29 in transitioning from education to the labor market. The program, developed in partnership with the European Union, includes employment subsidies, vocational training, and internships. During the pilot phase, approximately 25,000 young people participated, with over 12,000 receiving job offers, further education, or training.

In Republika Srpska, legislative changes have reduced the required duration for professional internships. For those with higher education, the internship period has been cut from 12 to six months, while the requirement for secondary education holders has decreased from six to three months. These reforms aim to allow young professionals to qualify for professional exams faster and achieve economic independence more quickly.
