Serbia and Republika Srpska record modest Q1 2026 GDP growth
In the Bosnian entity Republika Srpska, real gross domestic product rose 2.1% in the first three months of 2026 compared with the same period a year earlier. Growth was strongest in wholesale and retail trade, transport and storage, and accommodation and food services, which together added 6.1% to value added. Financial activities and insurance grew 4.6% and information and communications 4.3%. By contrast, mining, quarrying, manufacturing, energy and water supply fell by about 5%, with the manufacturing sector alone down 4.3%.
Serbia’s national statistics office reported a 3.2% year‑on‑year increase in real GDP for Q1 2026. The biggest contribution came from wholesale and retail trade, transport, tourism and hospitality, which rose 4.9%, adding roughly 24.2 billion dinars. Agriculture, forestry and fishing posted the highest percentage gain at 7.1%. Financial services and insurance grew 6.9% and the arts, entertainment and recreation sector 6.4%. Construction contracted further, falling 5.1%, while mining, processing industry and energy slipped 0.7%. The IT and communications sector continued to expand but at a slower 3.5% pace, whereas professional, scientific and administrative services accelerated to 6.1%. Household consumption, government spending and exports all registered double‑digit growth.
