Balkan region battles widespread wildfires across multiple countries FAST-MOVING

Multiple countries in the Balkans are currently battling widespread wildfires.

In Albania, the Ministry of Defense reported 34 fires within a 24-hour period, with 5 remaining active and 2 under surveillance. Key active areas include Mount Dajti in Tirana, Vajkal in Bulqizë, and Sllatinë in Dibër. Emergency operations involve 481 personnel and 44 vehicles, supported by the Armed Forces via helicopters and an Air Tractor aircraft. Authorities state there is no immediate risk to residential areas.

North Macedonia has registered 31 fires in 24 hours, with 5 still active. The most critical situations are in the Skopje region, specifically near Studeničani and Zeleni Kovri. While 25 fires have been extinguished, emergency services remain on high alert due to high temperatures and dry vegetation.

In Montenegro, several fires are active but under control across various municipalities, including Podgorica, Pljevlja, Danilovgrad, Kolašin, Cetinje, Nikšić, and Herceg Novi. The Ministry of Internal Affairs utilized significant aerial support, with the MUP aviation unit dropping 118 tons of water, while the Army of Montenegro dropped an additional 110 tons.

In Bosnia and Herzegovina, a major fire on Trebević mountain has been active for six days. A worker was successfully evacuated from a tower during the blaze. In Serbia, authorities are monitoring active fires in Deliblatska Peščara, Stolovi, and Goč, with high winds posing a risk of further spread.
