Serbia expands road network with 684 km of new motorways
Serbia has expanded its road infrastructure significantly, with over 684 kilometers of motorways and fast roads commissioned between 2013 and September 2026. This total exceeds the 596 kilometers of motorways constructed in the 67-year period from 1945 to 2012.
Key projects include the Miloš Veliki motorway, which was completed in July 2025 with the final section from Pakovraća to Požega. This 120-kilometer route includes the Laz and Munjino Brdo tunnels and connects to the Novi Beograd - Surčin section, providing a direct link from the capital to the motorway. The project also includes a Belgrade bypass designed to relieve urban traffic.
In southern Serbia, major developments include the Niš - Dimitrovgrad route and the completion of the E75 southern branch from Vladičin Han to Donji Neradovac. Additionally, the Y-branch bypass near Subotica-Kelebija was completed in 2019, and the Ruma - Šabac motorway opened in October 2023.
