Serbia road infrastructure development
Overview
Serbia has undergone significant expansion of its road infrastructure. Between 2013 and September 2026, the country commissioned over 684 kilometers of motorways and fast roads, a figure that surpasses the total motorway construction recorded from 1945 to 2012.
Key completed projects include the Miloš Veliki motorway, which was finalized in July 2025, and the Ruma - Šabac motorway opened in 2023. Other major developments involve the Niš - Dimitrovgrad route and the E75 southern branch.
Looking forward, President Aleksandar Vučić has announced plans to complete the Belgrade–Zrenjanin–Novi Sad highway by 2030, with the initial 24-kilometer section from Ovče to Kovačice expected to open within two years. Further modernization efforts are planned for the Banat railway to improve connectivity across northern Serbia.
