Regional political tensions rise amid elections and media freedom concerns
Political tensions are rising across the region ahead of upcoming elections. In Bosnia and Herzegovina, Vlado Đajić has emphasized his commitment to addressing healthcare and employment issues in the Republic of Srpska, following a musical tribute by Baja Mali Knindža that characterizes him as the ‘will of the people.’
In Serbia, Veran Matić, president of ANEM, has accused Aleksandar Vučić of being responsible for political violence. Matić reported 35 attacks on journalists in the ‘Ćacilend’ area over the past 18 months. During a trial regarding an attack on journalist Nataša Mijušković, the defendant reportedly used aggressive language toward media personnel.
Meanwhile, discussions regarding the independence of the Regulatory Authority for Electronic Media (REM) continue. Critics have raised concerns over the Council's decisions regarding media monitoring, specifically involving the exclusion of certain outlets from pre-election oversight.
