Serbia election preparations face observer and administrative disputes
Preparations for Serbia's extraordinary parliamentary elections, scheduled for October 25, are facing several political and administrative challenges. The European Parliament has confirmed it has not yet received an official invitation from Serbian authorities to send an observation mission, a requirement for its participation. While the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) has confirmed its mission is underway, opposition figures like Đorđe Stanković have questioned the delay in inviting the Council of Europe.
Within the electoral administration, Republic Electoral Commission (RIK) member Sofija Mandić noted that the commission has yet to decide on the numbering system for parties and coalitions on the ballot. This remains a contentious issue regarding voter equality and potential manipulation. Additionally, Slobodan Cvejić of the ‘European Serbia’ list criticized the Regulatory Body for Electronic Media (REM), alleging that a ‘deep REM’ structure influences decisions independently of its official members.
Internal party shifts are also occurring; Vladimir Milojević and nine other members have resigned from the Serbia Center (SRCE) party. Milojević cited disagreements over the party's decision not to support the Students' List in the upcoming elections.
