Serbia holds memorial services for 1990s war victims in Studenica and Čajetina

In early June, the Studenica Monastery in central Serbia hosted a liturgical service to honour the soldiers and civilians killed in the conflicts of 1991‑1999. The ceremony, organized by the Association of Veterans and War Invalids of the 1990s, included a short Mass, a moment of silence and the offering of incense by clergy of the Saint Archangel Gabriel Church.

A similar commemoration took place in Čajetina’s Little Park, where a memorial plaque for the war dead was visited by representatives of the Serbian Army, the Special Anti‑Terrorist Unit (SABOT), local veterans’ groups and municipal officials. Participants laid wreaths, observed a minute of silence and listened to a poem dedicated to the victims of the 1999 bombing of Tornić. Both events underscored the community’s effort to remember those who fell during the decade‑long wars and to reaffirm the memory of the sacrifices made for the nation.
