Serbia holds state ceremony at Jajinci to honor WWII victims

A state ceremony was held at the Jajinci Memorial Park to commemorate the victims of World War II, specifically Serbs, Roma, and Jews. The event was attended by Serbia's technical mandate Prime Minister, Prof. Dr. Đuro Matsut, alongside members of the Serbian Government, the Director of the Security Intelligence Agency Vladimir Orlić, and the Chief of the General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces Milan Mojisilović.

Also in attendance were representatives from the diplomatic corps, members of the Jewish and Roma communities in Serbia, and families of the victims. The ceremony included a memorial service at the Central Monument and the laying of wreaths.

According to official data, the Jajinci execution site was used by Nazi forces from the summer of 1941 to the autumn of 1943, resulting in the deaths of approximately 80,000 Serbs, Jews, and Roma. The site, located near Avala, was used for both shootings and executions via carbon monoxide. To conceal the crimes, the Gestapo conducted exhumations and burned bodies at the site between late 1943 and early 1944.
