World War II commemoration at Jajinci Memorial Park

Overview

A state ceremony was held at the Jajinci Memorial Park in Serbia to commemorate victims of World War II, specifically Serbs, Roma, and Jews. The event was attended by technical mandate Prime Minister Prof. Dr. Đuro Matsut, members of the Serbian Government, and high-ranking officials from the Security Intelligence Agency and the Serbian Armed Forces.

Representatives from the diplomatic corps and the Jewish and Roma communities were also present for the memorial service and wreath-laying. Historical data indicates the Jajinci site was used by Nazi forces between the summer of 1941 and autumn of 1943, resulting in the deaths of approximately 80,000 people through shootings and carbon monoxide executions. To hide these crimes, the Gestapo conducted exhumations and burned bodies at the site between late 1943 and early 1944.
