Serbia launches distribution of 30,000 senior tourism vouchers

From Monday, Serbia will begin handing out 30,000 tourism vouchers worth 10,000 dinars (about €85) each, earmarked exclusively for senior citizens. Minister of Tourism and Youth Husein Memić said the application process has been further simplified this year and that accommodation providers have shown strong interest in participating.

To qualify, seniors must present proof of pension income and their monthly pension may not exceed 80,000 dinars. The vouchers must be used by 1 November. Historically, pensioners have accounted for roughly 70 % of voucher users. Memić noted that Sokobanja has been the most popular destination, but an increasing number of beneficiaries are opting for nature‑based stays in registered rural tourism households.

Memić added, “I expect maybe two and a half thousand, maybe three thousand will want to use the vouchers,” and highlighted the growth of rural tourism over the past three years as a positive development for the sector.
