Balkan tourism voucher programs expand

Entities: Ministry of Tourism and Youth of Serbia · Ministry of Trade and Tourism of Republika Srpska · Serbia · Husein Memić · Bosnia and Herzegovina

Overview

In early July 2026 Serbia announced a domestic tourism stimulus of 30,000 vouchers worth 10,000 dinars each. By the end of July the country began distributing those vouchers, now targeted at senior citizens who must prove pension income below 80,000 dinars. The vouchers must be used by 1 November, and officials expect 2,500‑3,000 seniors to redeem them, with a noticeable shift toward nature‑based stays in rural tourism households.

Around the same time, Republika Srpska reported modest but steady growth in the January‑June period: arrivals rose 2.9 % to 245,744 and overnight stays increased 5 % to 611,951, driven mainly by foreign visitors. Mountain destinations saw the strongest gains, while spa areas remained stable. The entity has earmarked two million convertible marks for a domestic voucher scheme that, after sector consultations, is slated to launch in September.

Together the developments underscore a coordinated Balkan effort to boost domestic travel through targeted voucher programmes, supporting both senior tourists in Serbia and a broader mix of visitors in Republika Srpska.
