Serbia prepares for elections amid opposition shifts and minority council votes
In preparation for upcoming elections in Serbia, the European Serbia coalition has submitted its list of 246 candidates to the Republic Electoral Commission. However, the coalition faces internal fragmentation as several members have withdrawn from the list or the coalition itself. This division is largely driven by disagreements regarding how to support university students, with some opposition groups, such as the Green-Left and the Free Citizens Movement, choosing to support student movements rather than running independently.
Separately, Serbia has scheduled national minority council elections for November 8. These elections allow 23 national minorities to elect representatives who manage cultural self-governance, including education, culture, and the official use of minority languages. For the Hungarian community, this will be the fifth election cycle since the system's inception in 2010, with voters choosing the 35-member Hungarian National Council.
