Serbia voter registry lacks addresses for 500,000 citizens
An analysis by Radio Free Europe (RSE) has revealed that over 500,000 citizens in Serbia are listed in the voter registry without a specific street name or house number. This discrepancy means a significant portion of the electorate will participate in the extraordinary parliamentary elections on October 25 without complete address data in the official records.
In Belgrade, more than 90 percent of addresses lack an apartment number. The analysis also noted instances where voters were registered at public buildings or residential houses with capacities inadequate for the number of residents listed. The Ministry of Public Administration and Local Self-Government stated that maintaining residence records is the exclusive responsibility of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which has not yet responded to inquiries regarding the matter.
Separately, Serbian citizens living abroad have reported difficulties with the voting registration process. Many claim they are not receiving timely confirmations or clear information from diplomatic and consular missions regarding their applications, raising concerns about the protection of their constitutional right to vote.
