Wildfires in Serbia and Bosnia stabilize after major environmental damage

Wildfire situations in Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina are stabilizing, though significant environmental damage remains. In Serbia, the catastrophic fire in the Deliblatska Peščara nature reserve has reached a stable state after more than a month of fighting. International assistance from the EU Civil Protection Mechanism and a Russian Ilyushin aircraft helped contain the blaze, which affected between 4,000 and 5,500 hectares of forest and vegetation, with visible impacts across over 10,000 hectares. Experts from Vojvodinašume estimate that at least two decades of intensive care will be required to restore the area's biodiversity.

In Serbia, other areas like Stolovi mountain and the Pešterska plateau remain under monitoring, with some fires still not fully localized. In Bosnia and Herzegovina, the situation near Trebinje is stable, though an active fire front persists in the village of Grabovica, where helicopters are being deployed to combat the flames. Emergency services continue to monitor critical zones to prevent any reactivation of the fires.
