Serbian Administrative Court Blocks New Faculty of Serbian Studies in Niš
The Administrative Court in Serbia issued a temporary measure on June 10 that denies the Faculty of Serbian Studies at the University of Niš permission to operate three departments. The court’s decision overturns earlier approvals and restores the three departments to the Faculty of Philosophy, rendering the planned Faculty of Serbian Studies legally invalid.
In response, the academic network “Free University” in Niš sent a letter to university management warning that any further actions to establish the Faculty would constitute gross contempt of the court ruling. The letter emphasized that the court’s order supersedes any institutional or governmental decision, including those of the Serbian government, and that violations could lead to institutional and personal liability.
