Serbian citizens to receive up to €300 million from state‑owned share fund

The Akcionarski fond, created in 2010 as a joint‑stock company, holds 34.2 million shares with a nominal value of 550 dinars each. About 4.822 million Serbians who qualified for free shares at the end of 2007 are the majority owners of the fund, each entitled to seven shares. Citizens own roughly 98.65 % of the fund’s assets, while the state retains about 1.35 %.

Official estimates value the fund’s total assets at around 36 billion dinars (approximately €300 million), including roughly 25 billion dinars in cash and stakes in 403 companies, many of which are in bankruptcy or liquidation. The government plans to sell the remaining shares and assets, a process expected to be coordinated with the privatization law that sets a deadline of 31 December 2027. Professor Dragan Stojković of the Kragujevac Faculty of Economics cautions that a listing on the Belgrade Stock Exchange is unlikely; instead, the assets are expected to be sold off and the proceeds distributed to eligible citizens. If fully realized, each citizen could receive less than €70, although a specific timetable has not been announced.
