Serbian Civil Group Solidarnost Calls for State Action on Femicide

The Serbian civil movement Solidarnost issued a statement demanding that the state adopt systematic measures to combat femicide. It highlighted that in the past ten days three women were murdered in Serbia, and at least eight women have been killed since the start of the year. Because the state does not keep official records, women's NGOs have been tracking the numbers.

Solidarnost urged the government to define femicide as a distinct criminal offense, create a legal status for abused women, and provide specialized training for prosecutors, judges, police and social‑work centers to recognize and handle domestic‑violence cases. The group also called for educational programmes on toxic relationships, gender equality and non‑violent conflict resolution, as well as sustained support for NGOs that offer emergency assistance, legal protection and shelters for women.
