Serbian Education Minister warns against academic year suspension

Dejan Vuk Stanković, the Serbian Minister of Education in a technical mandate, stated that any suspension of classes would constitute an unambiguous violation of the Law on Higher Education. He expressed his expectation that the academic year will begin as scheduled on October 1.

Stanković warned that creating discontinuity in the educational process would be catastrophic, particularly if a precedent is set where the start of the academic year is delayed due to elections. He noted that while some academic circles may advocate for irregularity, such actions violate the university's adopted academic calendar and break the trust established between faculty administrations and students.

Regarding requests to postpone the start of the year, Stanković mentioned that while the Rector of the University of Belgrade, Vladan Đokić, had received such requests, they were made by a group of 'politicized students'.
