Serbian farmers demand clarity on agricultural subsidy payments

Agricultural associations in Vojvodina are seeking clarity from Minister of Agriculture Dragan Glamočić regarding the timing of seed subsidies, which were scheduled for payment in September and October. Mikloš Nađ, president of the Alliance of Agricultural Associations of Vojvodina, stated that while the Minister promised to expedite payments, no specific date was provided.

Farmers in the region are facing significant financial strain. Nađ reported that 50 percent of producers have not repaid debts for repromaterial and spring sowing. Low yields due to drought have impacted sunflower, soy, and corn production. Specifically, sunflower prices in Serbia are reported at 48 dinars per kilogram, compared to 58 dinars in Hungary, a price level that producers claim does not cover production costs.

In a separate engagement at the Župa Harvest in Aleksandrovac, Minister Glamočić emphasized the state's commitment to supporting winegrowers and modernizing production. He noted that over 600 million dinars in incentives have been paid to farmers in the Aleksandrovac area over the last two years, highlighting the importance of predictable agrarian policy amidst climate challenges.
