Serbian firefighters return from wildfire mission in France
Serbian firefighters and medical personnel have returned to Belgrade following their deployment to France to combat major wildfires. The team, consisting of 34 firefighters and 3 medical staff, utilized 15 motor vehicles and 2 trailers to assist in fire suppression and the creation of approximately three kilometers of firebreaks alongside French and Romanian colleagues.
Upon their arrival at the Makiš Training Center, Serbian Interior Minister Ivica Dačić welcomed the team, describing them as the pride of the nation. He noted that while the team was assisting France, domestic crews were simultaneously managing fires in regions such as the Deliblato Sands.
Minister Dačić highlighted the modernization of Serbia's emergency response capabilities, noting the acquisition of eight modern helicopters, including H145 and H215 Super Puma models. He also reported that the Sector for Emergency Situations has conducted 22,442 interventions and saved 704 lives since the start of the year. To further strengthen these services, the Ministry announced plans to recruit 435 new members for the Sector for Emergency Situations.
