Serbian government launches 2026 tourist voucher program as Niš tourism rebounds

The Serbian government announced the distribution of 30,000 new tourist vouchers for the 2026 season, each valued at 10,000 dinars. Eligible recipients include pensioners, low‑income workers, registered unemployed, students, war invalids, and registered farm owners. The scheme introduces stricter controls to curb fraud, with the tourism inspection and security authorities empowered to impose penalties of up to 800,000 dinars for misuse.

In May 2024, the city of Niš recorded 18,834 tourists – a 34 % rise over April and 20 % higher than the same month a year earlier. Domestic visitors numbered 10,473, while 8,361 were foreign guests. The popular Niška Banja saw a “jump” to 489 guests, up from 291 in April, while southern spas such as Sokobanja, Kuršumlija and Stara Planina also reported increased attendance.
