Wildfire in Padron, Galicia burns 330 hectares and forces evacuations

A fast‑spreading forest fire broke out on Friday in the parish of Herbon near Padron, Galicia, Spain. Strong winds and temperatures above 30 °C have driven the blaze to engulf about 330 hectares, prompting the evacuation of roughly a dozen homes in the settlement of Cruxeiras de Abaixo. Authorities have raised the emergency level to the second stage, and regional agencies, including the Ministry for Ecological Transition, have deployed ground crews, helicopters and heavy equipment to contain the fire. No injuries have been reported, but the fire has crossed municipal boundaries, threatening nearby areas and disrupting road traffic.

Local officials warn that the wind conditions are unusual for the season and that the fire could continue to expand toward neighboring municipalities, underscoring the heightened risk for residents and agricultural lands.
