Serbian Ministry of Internal Affairs warns of rising digital fraud

The Serbian Ministry of Internal Affairs has issued a warning regarding the increasing sophistication of internet fraud. Authorities noted that criminal activity is shifting from physical spaces to the digital realm, posing serious risks to anyone using smartphones, computers, social media, or electronic banking.

Specific threats identified include the misuse of payment cards and accounts, theft of personal and access data, fake profiles, digital violence, extortion, and the misuse of photos and videos. The Ministry highlighted that criminals are increasingly utilizing artificial intelligence to make scams faster and more convincing.

To mitigate these risks, the Ministry advises citizens to use strong passwords, enable two-factor authentication, exercise caution when opening links, and verify the identity of those they communicate with. Citizens can report suspicious content or request professional assessments through the national ‘Cyber Guard’ platform.
