Saint Stefan Štiljanović feast day celebrated by Serbian Orthodox Church

The Serbian Orthodox Church is celebrating the feast day of Saint Stefan Štiljanović and his wife, Saint Jelena (Elisaveta). Stefan Štiljanović, a 16th-century ruler from the Paštrovići region, is remembered as a righteous leader who protected his people during Ottoman incursions and provided food to the hungry by opening his granaries and forgiving debts.

Religious services were held in various locations, including Bečići, Montenegro, and Dalj, Serbia. In Bečići, the liturgy was led by Metropolitan Joanikije of Montenegro and Metropolitan Dimitrije of Zahumlje-Herzegovina. In Dalj, Metropolitan Vasilije of Srem presided over the celebration, which was attended by high-ranking officials and included the presence of the saints' relics.

The relics of Saint Stefan and Saint Jelena, which were historically kept at the Šišatovac Monastery on Fruška Gora, were moved to Belgrade in 1942 to protect them from destruction during World War II. They are currently enshrined in the Cathedral Church of Saint Archangel Michael in Belgrade.
