Serbian Orthodox Church feast day commemorations

Overview

The Serbian Orthodox Church has observed several feast days honoring historical figures. On October 17, the church celebrated the feast day of Saint Stefan Štiljanović and his wife, Saint Jelena. Štiljanović, a 16th-century ruler from the Paštrovići region, is honored for protecting his people during Ottoman incursions. Religious services were held in Montenegro and Serbia, with relics currently enshrined in the Cathedral Church of Saint Archangel Michael in Belgrade.

On October 22, the church commemorated the feast day of Saint Stefan Branković, also known as Stefan the Blind. A former Serbian despot, Branković endured Ottoman captivity and blinding before ascending to the throne in 1458 and eventually living in exile in Albania.
