Serbian police launch intensified traffic crackdown amid rising fatalities
From 13 to 19 July, Serbia’s Traffic Police will carry out the seventh central action of intensified road‑safety checks. The operation targets severe offences such as speeding, driving under the influence of alcohol or psychoactive substances, failure to wear seat belts, unlawful transport of children and reckless overtaking. Authorities report that since the start of July, 17 people have been killed and 123 have suffered serious injuries in road accidents. During the first day of the crackdown in Niš, police recorded 372 violations, including 216 speed‑limit breaches. Two Turkish drivers were fined 25,000 dinars and 15,000 dinars and received two‑month bans on driving category B vehicles for exceeding 130 km/h. The Ministry of Internal Affairs says the measures will continue throughout the summer tourist season to protect road users.
