Serbia road crashes kill three young people, spur MUP safety appeal

Early in the morning, two serious traffic accidents occurred in Serbia. In Surčin a 22‑year‑old driver of a passenger car was killed. In Banja Koviljača two 18‑year‑old friends, Marko J. (driver) and Bogdan M. (passenger), both holding provisional licences, died when their Volkswagen Golf lost control, left the road and struck a tree.

Police investigations are under way and the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP) issued a public appeal urging all drivers, especially young motorists and those with provisional licences, to obey speed limits, adapt to road conditions and avoid risky overtaking. The appeal said, "One thoughtless decision or a moment of inattention can have tragic and irreplaceable consequences."

Emergency crews had to cut the crushed vehicle to extract the bodies, and autopsies have been ordered. The incidents have renewed calls for stronger road‑safety education and enforcement.
