Vučić announces presidential resignation and upcoming election campaign
Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has announced his intention to resign from the presidency on September 27, following his upcoming trip to the United Nations General Assembly in New York. During his visit to the UN, Vučić expects to hold meetings with several world leaders, including US President Donald Trump and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
Following his resignation, Vučić plans to participate in the parliamentary election campaign, scheduled for October 25, as a 'regular citizen.' He has expressed a desire to run for Prime Minister and intends to lead a smaller government, potentially consisting of a maximum of 12 ministers, if his political coalition receives voter support. He also signaled plans for significant personnel changes, aiming to replace at least 50 percent of mayors and municipal presidents within three months of forming a new government.
In infrastructure news, work is progressing on the Rača-Bijeljina highway. Radovan Višković, acting director of Autoputevi Republike Srpske, reported that asphalt laying has commenced on the section within Republika Srpska. This project is intended to ensure the new bridge on the Sava and the integrated border crossing are fully operational by mid-October.
Meanwhile, the 'Studentska lista' is conducting a ten-day bicycle tour across Serbia to promote their platform ahead of the elections. The movement emphasizes constitutional values and seeks to engage directly with citizens in various regions.
