Serbian Progressive Party uses ‘Black Box’ installation in election campaign

The Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) has deployed a mobile campaign installation known as the ‘Black Box’ across Serbia, including Belgrade, Kragujevac, and Subotica, as part of its election campaign. The installation consists of a dark, black-walled container filled with debris such as stones, metal scraps, and eggshells, accompanied by screens looping footage of protests and clashes.

The SNS uses the installation to portray a vision of Serbia characterized by violence and chaos if they were to lose power, labeling the recent period of unrest as ‘22 months of violence.’

Critics, including the Democratic Community of Vojvodina Hungarians (VMDK), have denounced the installation as a tool for fear-mongering and the primitive defamation of political opponents. They argue the footage is manipulative, intentionally omitting instances of government aggression and police brutality while focusing on opposition protests to discredit groups like the ‘University List.’
