Serbian Prosecutor Offers Cooperation in Search for Former Polish Deputy Minister Marcin Romanowski

Serbian prosecutor general announced willingness to cooperate with Polish authorities in the investigation of former deputy justice minister Marcin Romanowski. Polish justice minister and prosecutor general Waldemar Żurek confirmed contact with Serbian prosecutors but said there is still no evidence confirming Romanowski’s presence in Serbia.

Romanowski, who faces charges of involvement in an organised criminal group and alleged misuse of the Justice Fund, is subject to a European Arrest Warrant issued in December 2024. His defence has asked a court to lift the warrant, arguing that Serbia is not an EU member and the warrant lacks legal effect there, and citing public information that he may be hiding in Serbia. Romanowski previously left Hungary, where he had been granted protection, after a court ordered his arrest.

The case remains unresolved, with Polish officials continuing to seek ways to enforce the arrest warrant while Serbian authorities have not yet located the suspect.
