Serbian Universities Fill All Budget Seats for 2026/27 Intake amid Record Demand

The Mechanical Faculty of the University of Belgrade reported that all 543 budget places for the 2026/27 academic year were taken in the first admission round, confirming its status as a top choice for engineering students. Dean Prof. Dr. Vladimir Popović highlighted the high competition and noted that the faculty’s programs attracted 620 applicants for the Mechanical Engineering track and 20 for the Information Technology in Machinery track.

According to a Serbian government decision, 17,493 budget‑funded seats were allocated for higher education institutions nationwide in 2026/27, with 9,732 of those at the University of Belgrade. Universities across the country, including those in Novi Sad, Kragujevac, and Niš, also saw a surge in applications, notably a near‑doubling of interest in journalism studies at the University of Novi Sad. The overall increase reflects strong demand for higher education despite a challenging previous year.
